Empowering Graphic Designers Together

In December 2016, designers from different districts of Kerala gathered in Ernakulam. Among them were freelancers, employees, and entrepreneurs in graphic design. Prior to this meeting, they had only been connected through a Whatsapp group and shared common industry concerns.

During the meeting, a committee was elected with the purpose of establishing a trade union to address these shared concerns. The decision was made to proceed with the registration process. Rajesh Avani (Thiruvananthapuram) was selected as president, Pradeep Koshy (Alappuzha) as General Secretary, Muhammed Rafeeq (Kozhikode) as Treasurer and Rajesh Pushpan (Thiruvananthapuram) as Joint Secretary by those in attendance at the meeting.

Subsequently, district committees were established throughout the state. Numerous charitable initiatives were undertaken to benefit both designers and the wider community. Seminars and workshops were organized to enhance members’ skills in line with current trends and advancements.

Subsequently, the Union elected Shri. Narayana Bhattathiri, a well-known calligrapher, as its President. The union was able to do a great deal for the benefit of its members and the community at large under his capable direction.
